JooYoung Choi (1982) was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to Concord, New Hampshire by way of adoption. While completing her BFA at Massachusetts College of Art and Design (2006-2010), she reunited with her birth-family. In 2012 Choi received her MFA from Lesley University (MA).
Through painting, video art, animation and puppetry she blends auto-biographical narrative with fantasy. Her artwork is organized around a paracosm (a highly structured imaginary world) called "The Cosmic Choi’s work has been shown across the United States and abroad, including: The Luke Wing Museum in Seattle Washington, the First Korean Adoptee Art and Film Festival in Seoul, South Korea, ArtExpoSD in San Diego and C.S Watson and the Cosmic Womb a solo exhibition featuring 40 works at the Brazos Gallery in Richland College, Dallas, TX.
