Artist Statement
Each painting begins with a rough compositional construct that evolves through layers and mark making. Colors and shapes become dependent on each other and dictate the direction of a piece. As I navigate through each painting, I continue to add and subtract elements while reducing the composition to its final structure. I view the work as complete when the surface consists of a vibrant, unbalanced harmony between negative and positive space.
