Previous Shows: 2014: Fresh as Form: Virva Hinnemo

Virva Hinnemo was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1976. Growing up she spent her time between Stockholm, Sweden, Viinijärvi, Finland and Moscow, Russia. In 1997 she moved to New York where she received her BFA from Parsons School of Design in 2000.  

Although Hinnemo’s work is abstract, it is firmly rooted in perception. Her images can be soft and painterly; they can be clumsy and heavy handed too. At times pictorial space is clearly suggested and at other times there’s not much except for accident and surprise. Each work elbows its way into existence with intuitiveness and is dedicated to her own hands-on dialogue with paint. Virva Hinnemo currently lives and works in Springs, Long Island.
